Hi Parents,
I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend! I have been out the last two days with the stomach bug. I am so glad that I’m feeling better.
We began our project based learning science unit on the earth, sun, moon, and stars last week. The first grade team designed several student-centered tasks to learn how the patterns in the day and night sky change. The kids are VERY excited! I'm extremely proud of how well they are learning to collaborate and communicate.
We also began rehearsals for our Magic Treehouse Musical Production. Our class practices on Thursdays- 1:30-2:15. The performance is April 26th. The showtimes are 9:00 and 11:00. Performances usually last an hour.
Thank you for your continued support in helping your child with their reading response journals. Students are to respond to a question Monday-Thursday using any book they have read independently or with you. This activity allows students to practice written comprehension using evidence from the text to support their answer. It also allows you to see what is required on the state reading assessment beginning at level F.
Literacy: Students will analyze characters in narrative text.
Writing: Students will write across the curriculum using text evidence.
Math: Students will use models to add two-digit numbers.
Science: Students will recognize the features of the earth/moon/sun system as observed from Earth.
Letterland: We will resume with Letterland
Unit 24 tomorrow. The test will be on next Wednesday.
Important Dates:
March 29th-April 6th- SPRING BREAK
