Parents,
We have had a great start to our week! We have been learning procedures and expectations for our classroom and other parts of our school. We have also been learning about Fixed v. Growth Mindset, how mistakes make our brains grow, and about being bucket fillers.
We have launched our new phonics program called Letterland. Letterland is a scientifically based program that uses a phonics-based approach to teach the foundational skills of learning to read and spell words. The Letterland characters transform plain black letter shapes into child-friendly pictograms and they all live in an imaginary place called Letterland.
Simple stories about the Letterland characters, explain the full range of phonics facts so that children are motivated to listen, to think and to learn. These stories explain letter sounds & shapes, allowing children to progress quickly to word building, reading, and writing. Mastery of reading foundational skills allows students to focus on the higher order reading components such as vocabulary and comprehension. The students have been very engaged in the stories, songs, and learning activities that go along with our Letterland lessons.
I can't wait to share our daily routine with you all on Curriculum Night, September 7th at 5:30 pm!
Just a reminder, as the end of the week, is approaching, to send in all signed school forms. If you have not sent in the school blue emergency card, the yellow emergency form, the student information sheet, or the Student Code of Conduct forms, please do so by the end of this week. There are a limited number of Code of Conduct forms that are available. Please let me know if you don't have access to a printer, and you need a printed copy of the forms.
Thank you,
-Ms. Finch
