Hi parents!
I hope you all enjoyed a restful long weekend!
Tomorrow is our class picture day!
Tomorrow, I will be sending how a letter from the first grade team about changes to daily math instruction. Our team of teachers are worked diligently to dive into students' data to learn ways that we can better differentiate and provide math instruction based on the needs of your child. This change will be greatly beneficial and enriching for your child. The letter will state your child's math teacher and the benefit of the change.
This week in curriculum:
Literacy: This week we started section 3 of this unit about space, in which the students will create a narrative poem using the information they have learned about space. The kids are learning how to create verses of narrative poems using adjectives, verbs, and nouns. They are also learning that not all poems will rhyme and how to create free verse. We will finish this section of Module 2 by the end of the month and begin our 3rd learning module about birds.
We will continue to work hard during Skills Block within our small groups in Writing, Fluency, Word Work, AIR, and with the teacher. Our students will be put in new skills groups when we return based on their current spelling level.
Math: This past week we finished Topic 6 in math about collecting and analyzing data. The students have learned how to take information, create tally marks, and put the information in a chart. They have also learned what to with the data and what they can learn from the information. We will also be working hard at differentiated levels within the classroom to gain mastery of these standards through games, technology, projects, and standards-based activities. Next week, we will begin Topic 12 which is about measuring length.
Social Studies: We are exploring the ideas of things that happened a long time ago and comparing them with present tense. For example, what homes, technology, and cities looked like a long time ago and how they have developed over the years.
