Hi parents!
Wow! What a great but busy first week! Thank you for making sure all your forms are turned in and everyone has their school supplies! We are off to a great start! Next week, I will start sending home the forms I may still need for your child. Please remember to turn in health cards, emergency contact sheets, photo release, and student code of conduct by September 3rd. All forms are listed on our classroom website which is https://msfinchsfirsties.weebly.com. Look for the tab that says 'more' and click on the page that says 'school forms'.
In our classroom this week we have been getting to know each other, making friends, and learning our classroom routines. We have been discussing how our brain is going to grow this year and having a growth mindset in math. We have also been talking about tools that will us manage our feelings, and emotions.
In Curriculum,
Math- Next week, we will begin discussing our math workshop as well as our first topic in math about addition and subtraction.
Literacy- we have started reviewing our expectations for reading with a partner for fluency, reading by ourselves, and our writing time. We are hoping to start rotating in centers next week. The kids are doing a great job being patient and hardworking as I gather data to get them reading to start math and reading groups.
Behavior:
Our class currently uses a clip up/clip down chart.
-Every student has a clip with his/her name on it.
-All students start in the middle on green.
My students clip up (to blue, pink or purple) when they:
-go the extra mile to help a student in need.
-are the first or second to do what I ask.
-are extra polite and respectful.
-do amazingly good work.
My students clip down (to yellow, orange or red) when they:
-interrupt me when I'm teaching.
-are disrespectful to another student or adult.
-cannot sit still or purposely keep another student from learning.
-do not behave during lunchtime or specials
Here are the consequences for yellow, orange and red:
Yellow: This is a warning. Students should stop and think about the choices they're making
Orange: Fix-it-Plan- Student will be asked to complete a sheet explaining why they chose to make the choices they made and how they will fix their behavior. This is sent home for you to sign and returned the following day.
Red: Parent Contact- I will be contacting you via email or phone to discuss the day. This will results in a referral or an office visit.
Students will now use their agendas to draw a circle with the color that they are on for that day. Please look at this daily to see your child's behavior in the classroom and sign it. Fix-it-Plan or Referrals will also be stapled inside the agenda.
Reminders:
·Take home binders must be returned each day. Please clean out your child’s folder each night and return it empty. I will make a note of your child’s behavior each day in their planner.
·There is NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 2nd due to Labor Day holiday.
·We will have Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 12th. Please see the note from Ms. Phelan for more details.
