Dear Parents,
I would like to first thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers for my family. My father suffered a brain aneurysm and a stroke this past week. He is still in ICU and is still in critical condition. He has made some improvement and my family and I still have a LONG road ahead of us. Please continue to keep my family and I in your thoughts and prayers.
This week students will continue to practice routines for Daily 5, Math Workshop, and Writer’s Workshop. Students did a WONDERFUL with our new math workshop rotations last week.
This Thursday and Friday, 9/21 and 9/22, are teacher workdays. Students will not come to school on either of those days.
Homework:
Please remember to return green Homework folders daily. Students will bring home their new set of spelling words every Monday, and their math homework sheets daily. The dry erase marker and the Look-Say-Cover-Write for spelling, can be kept at home.
This week in curriculum:
Reading: Students will continue to identify story elements such as characters, setting, problem, and solution.
Writing: Students continues to learn the behaviors of being a writer. Students will be working on developing topics for our writing and adding details. Students will also be learning about developing characters in our writing.
Math: This week we will be finishing Topic 1.
Last week students explored: comparing situations (solving subtraction problems that involve comparing to find how many more objects are in one group than another group).
This week students will:
We will practice our earlier skills of add to problems and take apart problems and also construct arguments on solving addition and subtraction problems.
Social Studies: We will continue to talk about Rights and Responsibilities by looking at the words: honesty, cooperation, and leadership. Students will be able to define these words and their characteristics and provide examples and non-examples of what these words look like in action.
