Parents,
This time of year is full of giving and bringing cheer to our community. First Grade is integrating our social studies unit on wants and needs with our literacy unit focusing on the central message found in the book Boxes for Katje. This book follows a young girl after World War II who receives a box from a pen-pal filled with items of need. We want to provide our students with a well-rounded conception of wants v. needs and the opportunity to be a part of a community service project. Our class will be conducting a community charity project for: A Child’s Place.
We need the following supplies:
• Soap
• Washcloths
• Deodorant
• Shampoo
• Body Wash
• Hand Sanitizer
• Chap Stick
• Child-friendly products- deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes
• Lotion
• Baby Wipes
• Clorox Wipes
Please visit their website to view their full list of needs, and to learn about how they help thousands of homeless children in our community.

Also, we need a parent volunteer to pick up the finished charity items and deliver them to:
601 E. 5th Street, Suite 230
Charlotte, NC 28202
If you would like to do this, please email me.
Please know that this is a project that is completely optional and we will donate whatever we receive. Thank you for your support with our unit of study this December.
Sincerely,
Ms. Finch & The First Grade Team
