Hi parents!
Please remember as the rain and cold come and go, our playground will be muddy and we will go outside unless it is below 32 degrees. Please be sure to send your child with a sweatshirt, jacket, or coat. Students are encouraged to play away of mud and puddles of water.
This coming Friday is a Teacher Workday. There will be
Literacy: This week we started section 3 of this unit about space, in which the students will create a narrative poem using the information they have learned about space. The kids are learning how to create verses of narrative poems using adjectives, verbs, and nouns. They are also learning that not all poems will rhyme and how to create free verse. We will finish this section of Module 2 by the end of the month and begin our 3rd learning module about birds.
We will continue to work hard during Skills Block within our small groups in Writing, Fluency, Word Work, AIR, and with the teacher. Our students will be put in new skills groups when we return based on their current spelling level.
Math: This past week we started Topic 6 in math about collecting and analyzing data. The students are learning how to take information, create tally marks, and put the information in a chart. They are also learning what to with the data and what they can learn from the information. We will also be working hard at differentiated levels within the classroom to gain mastery of these standards through games, technology, projects, and standards-based activities. Next week, we will continue topic 6 which is about collecting data.
Social Studies: We are exploring the ideas of things that happened a long time ago and comparing them with present tense. For example, what homes, technology, and cities looked like a long time ago and how they have developed over through the years. We have also been discussing who Martin Luther King Jr. was and the impact he had on our history.
Important Dates:
